COVID-19 Update 3/23/20:


Metrobus: Some buses will run on a modified Sunday schedule, and some routes may not be operating at all.

All routes will stop operating at 11:00 pm nightly beginning Monday, April 6, 2020. Click here for more information.

Metrobus customers will enter and exit the bus using the REAR doors only. Customers who require use of a wheelchair ramp will be able to use the front door.

Metro is also temporarily suspending fare collection on Metrobus, because all farebox and SmarTrip equipment is located at the front door.

Three routes serve the Bethesda Metrorail Station:

  • J1 and J2 lines run between Silver Spring and Bethesda
  • J4 express line runs between College Park and Bethesda
  • J7, J9 I-270 Express buses were replaced with Ride On extRa (Ride On Route 101) as of October 2, 2017. 
    • Ride On extRa provides service between Lakeforest Transit Center and Medical Center Metro Station.

Bus Stops
Bus stops are clearly marked with the red, white and blue Metrobus signs. Riders are urged to check the destination on the bus before boarding. The route number and destination are displayed above the windshield or on the boarding side of the bus.

Metrobus drivers do not carry money. Riders must have exact change, use a pass or SmarTrip® card.

The fares listed below reflect the increase in fares implemented June 25, 2017:

  • $2.00 Regular routes using SmarTrip® or cash
  • $1.00 Regular routes using Senior SmarTrip® or cash (with proper ID) for seniors and people with disabilities
  • $4.25 Express routes using SmarTrip® or cash
  • $2.13 Express routes Senior SmarTrip® or cash (with proper ID) for seniors and people with disabilities

  • Metrobus to Metrobus - Bus-to-bus transfers with a SmarTrip® card are valid for free, unlimited Metrobus connections (including round trips) within a two-hour period
  • Metrobus to Metrorail - Metrobus riders who transfer to the Metrorail system will receive a discount if they use a SmarTrip® card
  • Metrorail to Metrobus - Metrorail riders who transfer to Metrobus will receive a discount if they use a SmarTrip® card.
